Domestic Cleaning
What it is
Cleaning homes on a regular weekly or fortnightly basis, plus one off jobs like end of tenancy and deep cleans. Demand is constant, supplies are cheap and happy customers book the same slot for years.

Step by step
- 1
Start with a basic kit
Good vacuum, microfibre cloths, mop, spray bottles and a caddy (£100–£200). Ask clients whether to bring your own products or use theirs.
- 2
Get insured
Public liability insurance protects you if something is damaged. Some customers also ask for a DBS check, which you can get through some cleaning agencies.
- 3
Set prices
Advertised self-employed rates are roughly £14–£20 an hour. Charge by the hour for regular cleans and fixed prices for end of tenancy and ovens.
- 4
Find regulars
Use Nextdoor, local Facebook groups, Bark and Checkatrade. Landlords and Airbnb hosts are brilliant repeat customers.
- 5
Make a checklist
A written checklist for each type of clean avoids arguments and speeds you up. Take before and after photos for end of tenancy.
