Man & Van, Removals and House Clearance
What it is
Moving furniture and boxes, collecting unwanted items, or clearing a whole house. If you have a van (or can hire one) it can be one of the fastest ways to earn, and clearances often leave you stock to sell.

Step by step
- 1
Check your van and licence
You need a suitable van, full licence, MOT and the right business insurance (hire and reward, plus goods in transit).
- 2
Register as a waste carrier
If you carry other people's waste for payment you must be a registered waste carrier with the Environment Agency. There is a registration fee (and the upper tier renews every 3 years), so check the current cost on gov.uk. Keep waste transfer notes.
- 3
Price by the hour or the job
Hourly with a two or three hour minimum for moves (£45–£80 an hour for two people and a van is typical, more in London), or a fixed price for clearances once you have seen the job. Add tip fees and fuel.
- 4
List where people look
Create profiles on Anyvan, Shiply and Bark, plus a Google Business Profile with photos of your van.
- 5
Keep what you can sell
Clearances often include furniture and bric-a-brac worth selling on eBay or Facebook Marketplace. Agree this with the customer in advance.
